‘Black Friday’ Egypt VS The World

‘Black Friday’ Egypt VS The World

Let’s be honest, everyone likes a bargain, so it’s no surprise that Egyptians are huge fans of this day. Black Friday started out in the 1950s in America. It was a way to celebrate the start of the festive season; today Black Friday is a global phenomenon.

Even e-commerce and international media channels have facilitated an increase in awareness, particularly in western countries such as the UK and Canada. Many and increasing daily have also taken a part of the infamous ‘Black Friday’. If you are not living on this earth and are clueless, let me just explain in further detail what makes this globally popular day so special. Black Friday is a day chosen in the middle of November, right after, my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. It is a day where ‘sale’ is not even the proper term. It was originally created because the holidays were just right around the corner, and people needed to buy gifts for them. Black Friday is the day where EVERYTHING and I mean; EVERYTHING is on sale. Discounts can go for as high as 70% OFF. You name it, it’s on SALE!

Today it’s a bit different; Black Friday isn’t just in the states anymore. In America people wait for this day, camp outside shopping malls for this day, for Egyptians it’s another story. In Egypt, Black Friday isn’t just ONE day, it can run up to a couple, a weekend even. People don’t camp outside shopping malls, they wait until the actual day and create a bucket of sales! Here is a list full of fun facts; Egypt has created for this day.

It’s not called just ‘Black’ anymore, now it’s ‘White Friday Sale’. As an Egyptian/American, I love how Egypt also makes everything its own!
1. Jumia and Souq, the most famous e-commerce shopping websites have made it their duty to partake in this, which honestly is awesome!
2. Com has renamed it to; THE BLACKOUT.
3. Even private gyms have taken part of this day, and offering Black Monthly Offers, not just only on that day. During, after, and even all month of the famous holiday.
4. Lastly, the new name for ‘Black Friday’ in Egypt is ‘White Friday’.

Gotta hand it to us Egyptians, nothing ever stays how it starts. We copy, generate, and make it our own. Hey! At least we rename it! #NoCopyRights, I don’t think!
