TOP 6 DANCE CHALLENGES THAT WENT VIRAL IN 2018
Two Thousand and Eighteen was the year! The year for any type of dance songs to go VIRAL and have dance challenges to prove it! Famous Dex had the whole world buzzing with his ‘Japan’ dance challenge back in March, BTS launched their own dance for their latest single, ‘Idol’ too! Wait there’s way more where that came from; most famously of course, was Drake’s “In my feelings” challenge better known as “KIKI, do you love me?”, gave the non-single a push to stay on top of the Billboard’s hot 100 for SEVEN weeks in a row!
Social media has played a massive role in these challenges success! As Instagram and Twitter become increasingly popular by the day, artists and dance challenge lovers took it upon themselves to compete with one another, via #dancechallenges. In an age where social media is where people express themselves. Whether it’s from their posts, the reactions on the posts, their stories, etc…it’s a place where anyone could be whatever they want to be, and the Internet lives by its own rules.
It all started when Drizzy’s Scorpion got realized on June 29th and then social media comedian Shiggy posted an Instagram video of himself dancing to the track, dubbing the dance #DoTheShiggy. Instantly, people from celebrities and SocialMediaFrenzies flooded social media with videos ‘copying’ the dance to the point where just by hearing the lyrics, ‘Kiki, do you love me?’ became a social phenomenon. Drake even dedicated the success of the song to Shiggy and dedicated the tune’s music to a compilation of his favorite Shiggy reenactments. Thanks Shiggy for that one!
From then on, dance challenges then popped up almost every week. Even Ciara’s “Level Up” and Nicki Minaj’s “Fefe” challenges, and can’t forget to mention BTS “Idol” moves were catching on too a month later. Let’s keep it straight, there are still two months left of 2018 anything is possible.
